My Journey Into Lutherie

I got into lutherie through a deep appreciation for figured wood. Flame maple, spalted grain, and unusual burl patterns always felt like they were pointing toward a finished instrument. That pull toward the material is what led me from woodworking into building guitars.

Dorweiler Guitars is focused on one-off instruments built with intention rather than volume. Each project starts with a standout piece of wood and a clear vision for how to bring out its best qualities, from resin inlay work and burst finishes to the feel of the neck and the precision of the fretwork.

With every build, I refine the process further. The standard is simple: create guitars that are visually striking, comfortable in the hands, and rewarding to play. They should hold attention from across the room and earn it the moment you plug in.

If you're interested in commissioning a build or just want to talk shop about figured woods and lutherie, get in touch. I enjoy connecting with players, collectors, and fellow builders who care about the details.

How I Work

🪵

Wood First

I source flame maple, spalted varieties, and exotic burls for character, depth, and movement. Each build begins with wood that has a strong visual identity worth designing around.

🎨

Built to Be Seen

Figured tops, resin details, and carefully developed finishes give each instrument a distinct presence. The goal is a guitar that feels personal and unmistakable the moment you see it.

⚙️

Details Matter

Neck carve, fretwork, finish quality, and final setup all have to be right. Those small decisions are what turn a beautiful build into an instrument players want to keep reaching for.

One-Off Builds

No two pieces of figured wood are the same, and each build responds to the material in front of it. The result is a guitar with its own identity rather than a repeated formula.

"Every piece of figured wood has its own character. My job is to bring that character forward in an instrument that feels right in your hands, responds the way it should, and invites you to keep playing."
