How It Works

Every Dorweiler guitar is a collaborative process between you and me. I work directly with each client to understand their vision, playing style, and aesthetic preferences. From the initial consultation through wood selection, construction, and final setup, I'm the only person who touches your instrument. That single-builder approach means your guitar doesn't get handed off between departments or built on an assembly line. It gets focused attention from start to finish.

The Build Process

Initial Consultation

We discuss your vision, playing style, tonal preferences, and aesthetic goals. I'll share photos of available figured woods and discuss design options.

Design & Wood Selection

Together we'll finalize the design, select your figured top, choose body/neck woods, hardware, and finish. I'll provide photos and samples throughout this process.

Build Phase

Construction begins! I'll send progress photos at key milestones—body shaping, inlay work, finishing stages. This phase typically takes 8-14 weeks.

Final Setup & Delivery

After final assembly, I perform a complete professional setup including fretwork, action adjustment, and intonation. Your guitar is ready to play.

What to Expect

Timeline

Most builds take 8-14 weeks from design approval to completion. Timeline varies based on complexity and current project queue.

Investment

Custom builds start at $2,500, depending on wood selection, inlay work, and hardware choices. 50% deposit required to begin, remainder due upon completion.

Progress Updates

You'll receive regular photo updates at key stages: wood prep, body shaping, finishing, and final assembly. Stay involved throughout the process.

Uniqueness

Every figured wood top is one-of-a-kind. No two guitars will ever be exactly alike. Your instrument will be truly unique.

Single Builder

Your guitar is built entirely by one person from start to finish. No assembly line, no handoffs between departments. One builder, one vision, complete accountability.

I specialize in premium figured woods including:

  • Figured Maple: Flame, quilted, spalted varieties
  • Exotic Burls: Buckeye burl, walnut burl, maple burl
  • Traditional Woods: Mahogany, ash, alder
